September 18, 2004, Virginia 10-Miler, Lynchburg, VA August 21, 2004, Lynchburg 1/2 Marathon and 5K, Lynchburg, VA July 24, 2004, Presbyterian Home 5K, Lynchburg, VA June 26, 2004, Percival Island 5-Miler, Lynchburg, VA Race Report by Abigail Claiborne On a muggy, but slightly cool for June Saturday morning, me and 97 other local Lynchburg runners took part in the Percival's Island 5-mile race. A totally flat race - refreshing since most of my runs lately have been up and down and up and down. My goal for the race was to run between 40-45 minutes (knowing that I was going to be around the 42-43 range). Goal pace: 8:30. First mile - 8:11 - felt pretty good then started to slow down a bit running 8:36, 8:48, 8:50 and then 8:40 finishing at about 43:10. Race went well and I even won my age group - granted I was the only one in my age group :) And my roommate ran his first race ever finishing around 38:30!! Pictures of the race are on the site. Till the next run! May 1, 2004 Jamerson Family YMCA 5K, Lynchburg, VA April 25, 2004 Angel's Race Sprint Triathlon, Lynchburg, VA (Jeannie's report) April 24, 2004 Vinton Baptist Dogwood Challenge 5K, Vinton, VA April 17, 2004 Charlottesville Half Marathon, Charlottesville, VA by Sarah Johnston The Charlottesville Marathon/Half Marathon course was described as "a scenic and challenging course with rolling hills thrououghout". What I believe they actually meant was, "a scenic course that you will be in too much pain to notice as you climb huge hills, one right after another". That said, I finished the race, without walking, and came somewhat close to my goal time, considering the terrain. My goal was 2:00 and I finished in 2:06. I was actually on pace up to mile 8, when I just couldn't hold it on the hills anymore. I finished 322/652 overall, and 42/96 in my age/sex group. This was by far the toughest course I've ever run, but well organized, friendly and they really aren't lying when they say it's scenic....beautiful is actually a better way to put it. I had a great time and felt great afterward. The weather was just about perfect and the crowd was just my size. I'd highly recommend this race for a half marathon, as long as you do plenty of hill training. As for the full marathon...I'd pick something flatter! April 4, 2004 D.C. Cherry Blossom 10-Miler, Washington, D.C. (Jeannie's report) (Karen R's report) March 13, 2004 Report on DongAh Seoul International Marathon, Korea (Seoulrunner) March 13, 2004 Shamrock Hill 5K, Roanoke, VA March 7, 2004 B&A Trail Marathon, Annapolis, MD by Abigail Claiborne 950 people signed up for the 1/2 and full
marathon - about 2/3s ran in the 1/2 marathon. My goal time was 1:55
and
I came in at 1:55.53. The course was mostly flat with 2 minor hills (I
don't even think I could classify them as hills anymore) at mile 2 and
7. The results aren't posted yet, but I did count after I was done and
I
was 7th in my age group and 311 overall - so definitely top half! :)
Definitely
a good race, but I'm feeling the effects of it today as I hobble around
the office.
